E-Portfolio
Your e-portfolio is going to be a great way to demonstrate your interdisciplinarity. What ways do you think this could be demonstrated? While creating your e-portfolio do you have an audience in mind? Maybe a possible employer? Is there a certain look your going for that you would want your potential boss to see in your e-portfolio? I know my e-portfolio has been a great way to understand my wants and goals. From the help of my e-portfolio, I have been able to discover many things about myself and my future goals.

I am really excited about the potential use of my e-portfolio. I know that it can be used in so many ways to show way more than just a simple resume. One great thing about e-portfolio is that you can have a separate "page" for each of your areas of study, which is great to show how much knowledge and experience you have. Another great thing about e-portfolio is that you can visually show the work you have done. With just a resume, all you can do is say the work you've done. As you can tell, I obviously intend to show my e-portfolio to possible future employers. I want my e-portfolio to stand out as professional but also creative and unique at the same time. Creativity is very important in the type of career I plan to have, so I want to be able to show that with my e-portfolio. I really think that having an e-portfolio as an additional resource for possible employers to see would make me stand out from the other applicants.
ReplyDeleteKassi,
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right about standing out to future employers. In addition to giving more information about yourself, it also shows that you are responsible and hard-working enough to take the time to put an e-portfolio together. It will definitely come in handy in the future. Employers see dozens of resumes every day, so having something extra really gives you that much of an advantage.

I really like most of the points that Kassi made in her post. My e-portfolio will work as a supplement to my resume. It'll allow me to actually show examples of the knowledge that my resume says I have. I'd really like my e-portfolio to display both professionalism and creativity as those are two very important aspects that an employer will consider.
ReplyDeleteEither way you look at it, e-portfolio is a great tool for almost anyone. You can not only use it for future employers, but also to get into some kind of program (grad school, etc.), and you can even just use it to show people your hobbies and interests. I know that all of my hobbies and interests are going to be shown in e-portfolio because I've picked my major based on those interests.
ReplyDeleteThat's true! Grad school is something I hadn't really thought about as a potential way to use my e-portfolio. And then, like you said, it does show off your hobbies and interests. Also, if their are any people in IDS that aren't really sure what career path they want to choose the e-portfolio may help clear things up for them.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be able to demonstrate our interdisciplinarity by explaining all the different courses and experiences we've had in each of our areas of study. Like our major the e-portfolio will be one thing made up of the unique subjects chosen by each student.
ReplyDeleteE-Portfolio will allow me to present my interdisciplinarity in an organized, accessible manner to potential employers and graduate schools. One benefit that I believe this will have for me is getting a better grasp on how my areas of study tie together and how I can use them as I pursue studies at seminary. Since that is where I am headed I am not aiming mainly to gear my e-portfolio towards potential employers but towards seminaries and churches. With that in mind, I very much want my e-Portfolio to give a sense of who I am and what I want to do. I would like to showcase work that highlights skills that would be profitable for someone in ministry.
ReplyDeleteI like what Cody said about others benefiting from our e-Portfolios to help them navigate through their own life decisions. For example, I could perceive there being other IDS majors wanting to attend seminary after graduation but unsure of how to utilize their areas to that end. Hopefully, my e-Portfolio will help these students in their decisions, whether it's to pursue a degree in IDS or finalize their three areas of study.
ReplyDeleteCody,
ReplyDeleteI like how you said the e-portfolio is like the major, made up of your unique interests. I feel like a lot of people haven't taken the time to really know themselves, and aren't sure of what there personal interests actually are. It's nice to have time set aside for such an important thing. Knowing who you are and being able to show others is something you will appreciate even more down the road.
Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you want to use your e-portfolio to benefit other IDS students in their quest to attend seminary. Most people need someone to help them create ideas and offer guidance. I'm sure you will help out more people than you think.
A reocurring theme is interdisciplinarity. Alot people want to understand what our degree is. So when we tell them that our degree is broken down into different areas of study and concentration, the E-portfolio is a great way for them to see and understand what our degree entails. We can tell them we have the upper hand ;) we never limited ourselves to study one thing, but many. Welcome to today's workforce!
